Empowered?

A friend of mine who makes his living servicing computers tells about something that has happened to him more times than he can remember.

A customer calls: “My computer won’t print.”

My friend begins to try to diagnose the problem: Is it a software issue? Are the connection cables hooked up? Is the wireless router functioning right?

Finally, my friend asks a question that makes his client feel silly, but that fixes the problem instantly: “Is the printer plugged into the electrical outlet?”

Sheepishly, the answer comes, “No, but I’m all set now. Thanks for your help.”

If every system is in place, but the power isn’t flowing, things just aren’t going to work.

The same principle is true in the spiritual realm, as well.

Nothing in a believer’s life will work as it should if we don’t have God’s power flowing through us.

In Romans 12:1-2, Paul gives us a strong teaching about gaining spiritual power:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:1–2, NKJV).

If we break down these verses, we discover that God’s Word shows us …

… what we must offer to experience His power – “present your bodies a living sacrifice.”

… what we must avoid to gain His power – “do not be conformed to this world.”

… what we can become through His power – “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

… what we can do in His power – “that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Have a great day and keep moving forward!
