You've been there. If you've ever been in a gym class in school, you've been there. The coach calls all the class in front of him, and he says, "All right, today we're going to play"—whatever the sport is, basketball, softball, football, soccer, whatever—volleyball, whatever it is.
He says, "Okay, I want these two guys to be the captains." And then he tells the two captains, "I want you to choose your teams."
They start choosing. They start picking. The whole class is in front of them. The fastest and the strongest and the most skillful get chosen first, and then they work their way down. Finally, they get down to the bottom of the class, the scrubs, the guys who are just barely able to do anything. And there I'm standing, hoping that I will be chosen.
As the negotiations continue between the two captains, eventually they start to talk back and forth to one another, and they say something like this: "Well, I'll take him if you'll take him," and they finish choosing the teams, and it's over. Everybody's on a team, but some people were not chosen with a whole lot of enthusiasm.
I want you to know something: If you've been saved, God chose you. And when He chose you, He chose you with joy. God chose you with enthusiasm!
Jesus tells us in John 6:44 that those who come to Him have been chosen and drawn by His Father. He says,
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
God loves you so much that, before you were born, before He made the mountains, the seas, the birds, and the bees, He chose you to be His child. That's what the Bible means when it talks about "election." The Word of God resonates throughout the pages of Scripture that God chose those who have trusted in the name of Jesus Christ.
Have a great day, and keep moving forward!
